Founding Fathers…?

‘Founding Fathers’ was first used at the 1916 Republican Convention.  No wonder the list of said ‘Founders’ is usually limited to men who acted on the political stage.  Did only politicians birth this nation?  What of the men of the Continental Army and militia units?  What of the men that left their farms and families to place their very being between the members of Congress and British bullets?  As Americans, we tend to hold in esteem those that talk a good talk, write an interesting line, sing a pretty tune, act a fancy part, or play a popular game.  Yet, those who were willing to pour out their blood to birth this nation, and those who continue in order to protect this nation, seem barely worth the notice.  Those that actually offered their lives are all but forgotten… It seems we didn’t have our priorities straight in 1916, to not consider men like Nathanael Greene, Joseph Warren, Josiah Quincy, Jr., etc. as Founding Fathers.  Our priorities today?  Consider who America’s current heroes are.  I’ll bet few soldier’s names come to mind….
