James McHenry, a Maryland delegate to the Constitutional Convention, in recording the events of the Convention’s last day wrote, “A lady asked Dr. [Benjamin] Franklin Well Doctor what have we got a republic or a monarchy – A republic replied the Doctor if you can keep it.”
George Washington later stated, “The preservation of the sacred fire of liberty … is finally staked on the experiment entrusted to the hands of the American people.” (This quote was repeated by Ronald Reagan in his State of the Union Address on 1/29/82)
For 250 years the blood of American Patriots has been shed to establish and protect our Republic. On July 1, 2024, six members of the Supreme Court put this Republic in great danger by establishing blanket immunity to any US President and virtually granting the office the power of a monarchy.
Has the experiment entrusted to the hands of 21st century Americans failed? God help us all.
